The F-86 'Sabre' holds the distinction of becoming the United States' first swept-wing, jet-powered fighter and was introduced during the first Jet-versus-Jet duels over the Korean Peninsula during the Korean War (1950-1953). Nearly 10,000 of the type were produced during its manufacturing run and the series went on to stock the inventories of many Western allies of the Cold War period including West Germany, Japan, Pakistan, South Korea, and Turkey. The USAF gave up use of the series in 1965 through others continued relying on the classic platform into the 1990s (Bolivia). The FJ 'Fury' and F-100 'Super Sabre' lines owe their lineage to the F-86.
